Children Cause You To Be Humbled.

Prior to having children, I thought I was pretty well presented. After all, I only had to worry about getting myself ready in the morning. I enjoyed a leisurely stroll in the mall, at Target, and I didn't even mind a bargain shopping day at TJ Maxx. I was interested in the latest fads and keeping up with the trends. Sadly, Darren's paycheck paid all the bills and my paycheck went to whatever I wanted, whatever the house needed, and wherever we wanted to go. Weekly manicures were a must and monthly pedicures were a definite. Life was ALL about me. Praise God he has changed my outlook on life. Shopping is certainly still fun for me, but it's NOT my priority in life. It's ALL ABOUT GOD'S GLORY.

Now, life is drastically different. If I even get to go shopping anymore, 9.5 times out of 10 I find myself in the stores only fitted for children. I'd much rather my children look adorable and coordinating than I would myself.

I haven't completely given up. I still shower :) I still shave my legs :) I still apply make-up :) and I still iron my clothing :), I just don't have the desire to worry about whether or not have I UGG boots on or if they are the imitation ones. It's just not important to me anymore.

Today, I ran out to run an errand and left my sunglasses home. I wanted to wash my car, so off I went. The sun was killing my eyes, so I decided to reach into my console and put Ty's sunglasses on. As I pulled up to the car wash, I completely forgot I had his sunglasses on. I guess the guy who assisted me at the car wash was probably thinking either 1. "What the heck is she wearing." or 2. "I guess those sunglasses are the new style." UGH.... children cause you to be humbled and forgetful.

Be Careful What You Ask Your Kids!

Everyday I look for ways to make conversation with Tyson about his school day. It's pretty much the same conversation every day with a tad bit of deviation. One day last week, I said, "Hey Ty, did you have music class today?" He said, "No, we had gym." I said, "OH. I wonder what Mrs. Barrett does when you are in gym class." He replied, "I know. She drinks beer." I almost died laughing. HOW random and hilarious. I mean, it's not like this house contains beer, so how does he really even know what that is. My reply was, "Ty, Mrs. Barrett doesn't drink beer in school." He said, "Yes should does, I saw her." I really wasn't expecting this type of reply. I guess I should be careful what I ask him from now on.

Sitter Caught Wearing "Daddy's" Underwear

A few weeks back, Darren and I left town for two days because I was in a friend's wedding. We left both Kaitlyn and Mattie in charge. When we returned back from the wonderful weekend alone, Tyson was at school. I was anxiously awaiting him to arrive home and step off the bus so I could give him a big hug. As soon as we got insdie and I made him a snack, I began probing Tyson for details. I was just curious what kind of things took place. After running out of things to talk about, I said,

K: "Hey Ty, who walked you to the bus stop this morning?"
T: "Mattie." (In a very annoyed voice)
K: "Why do you say it like that? Were you hoping Kaitlyn would take you to the bus stop?"
T: "No. She walked me to the bus stop in her underwear."
K: "Ty, I very seriously doubt it was her underwear. It was probably pajama pants."
T: "No really, she walked me to the bus stop in daddy's underwear."

"DADDY'S UNDERWEAR". Okay, Mattie had some explaining to do. SO.... I sent both Mattie and Kaitlyn an email demanding an explanation :) Mattie was hysterically laughing. Kaitlyn too.

Let me back track to the early am bus stop conversation

M: "It's cold out here."
T: "Yay, well that's because you're wearing your underwear."

In the midst of all of this, I began telling Darren the story. When I heard this story, I couldn't believe my ears, BUT, for some reason, Darren didn't seem to react the same way. Instead, here's how this conversation went.

K: "Tyson said Mattie walked him to the bus stop in your underwear."
D: "What do you mean?"

So I proceeded to tell him the entire story.

D: "Well she probably was wearing my underwear."
K: "Darren, are you for real? Mattie wearing YOUR underwear. NO!"
D: "Well she was probably in a rush to get out the door and just quickly opened up my drawer to throw something on and the first thing she found was my underwear drawer."

I'm not sure who's crazier... Darren or Tyson in their thought processes, but REST ASSURED, Mattie was NOT wearing Daddy's underwear. She was wearing female boxer shorts.

HILARIOUS STORY!

Chris Tomlin Countdown

Tomorrow, Darren, Tyson, and I are joining (7) families from our church to attend a Chris Tomlin concert. I am really looking forward to this time with our family in Christ, but I am especially looking forward to this time with Darren & Tyson. In our house, we are big fans of Chris Tomlin. Our favorite song is "Your Grace Is Enough!" From what I hear, the concert will be a great time of fellowship by worshiping and praising our glorious God. For weeks and weeks, my only fear about Tyson going to the concert was that when I purchased these tickets, I purchased them before Tyson started kindergarten. We forgot that we would be out late and that Tyson would have school the next day. Wouldn't you know, just last week, I was informed that the day after the concert is a scheduled day off for teacher's work day? GOD IS SO GOOD! Now he can have fun and sleep in the next day.

If you've never heard of Chris Tomlin, I uploaded some of his songs to my blog. Listen carefully to the lyrics. They are spine chilling.

For those of you joining Darren, Tyson, and I, we are heading to dinner at 5:00 pm. We plan to eat at Rancho Viejo. If you care to join us, let me know. The Harris' have already decided to join us.
